| In bash you can use Alt-. to fill in the last argument, it's nicer
! than !$ because you can see what it is before running the command.
is there any way to turn this <Alt> and <Meta>
garbage off? I can get rid of some of the
horrible things interactive bash(1) does with
(from my `$HOME/.bashrc'):
set +H # Disable csh(1)-style `!' history expansion
shopt -u hostcomplete # Disable `... at hostame' completion
but the <Alt>/<Meta> nonsense drives me up the
fscking wall! (I'm an _original_ Bourne shell
person from way back, and only switched first
to Korn ksh(1), and then GNU bash(1), when they
got Rob Pike's “cd spelling correction” — albeit
neither implemented it quite properly .... ;-( ).
( for those who are confused, `!' csh(1)-stylwe
stuff includes `!!' and `!$', and probably much
of the other "features" Kevin highlighted. )
cheers!
