IT System Administrator - RTÃ Publishing
RTÃ is Ireland's Public Service Broadcaster and RTÃ Publishing is an
Integrated Business Division (IBD) of RTÃ, encompassing the businesses
of the RTÃ Guide, RTÃ.ie, RTÃ Aertel, audience interaction, content
syndication, and the incubation of new technology. The division
generates an annual turnover of Â14 million and is a self-sustaining
profit centre within RTÃ.
The Technology Department within the division incubates new digital
technologies on behalf of other RTÃ divisions and develops, supports and
operates the infrastructure for delivery of Web, Teletext, Streaming,
Mobile and SMS content services for all of RTÃ.
The main responsibilities will include:
. The support and development of Publishing Division content production
and delivery IT infrastructure.
. The management of deployment of new applications and updates
. The documentation of Publishing's IT systems and applications
. Playing an active role in application and infrastructure development
projects
. Managing relationships with external system and software vendors
. The implementation of policy and procedures to ensure business continuity
. Liaising and working in close cooperation with other staff in Publishing
. Contributing to Publishing's technology development planning process
. Broadening technological skill base into other areas
The successful candidate will have:
. Troubleshooting and analytical skills
. The ability to work on multiple tasks autonomously and in a
professional manner.
. Good written and verbal communication skills
. Enthusiasm, willingness to be flexible and grow within role
. 3-5 years experience in an enterprise system administrations role
. A familiarity with both Linux and Windows Server operating systems
. An understanding of LAN/WAN environments, network infrastructure and
backup architecture, network protocols, TCPIP, DNS
. Expertise in Linux, Apache, PHP, Perl, MySQL
. A good understanding of switch and router hardware and protocols
(Cisco preferably)
. The ability to code in various shell scripting languages
. A third level degree, higher diploma, or appropriate experience
Industry certification, e.g. MCSE, Red Hat, Cisco etc., and familiarity
with streaming media services (Real Media and Windows Media) would be an
advantage. Expertise in Windows Server 2K/2003 and AD is highly desirable.
