OK, this turned out to be RAM. Apparently a DIMM went dodgy, and the
beast would boot, but no longer had enough ram to run the software
(Which wanted over 512mb). The local IT guy had been & gone, and the box
would not boot at this stage, but the ram had been tested, and one was
gone. It's in my place today with parts to be couriered in and three
guys on my case full time :-(. Any gotchas or lockouts here I should
