[ILUG] ILUG AGM 2006

[ILUG] ILUG AGM 2006

Niall O Broin niall at linux.ie
Thu Nov 2 09:07:12 GMT 2006

The 2006 ILUG AGM takes place on Saturday next, November 4th , at
14:30 - that's just 2 days away, for those who are calendar
challenged. [Note - the time is slightly earlier than previously
advertised, to accommodate our full talks schedule]

The venue is once again generously provided by the Irish Computer
Society - map
and details at http://www.ics.ie/main/contact.htm.

Lots of interesting talks, election of committee and such AGM like
stuff, and beers afterwards in a nearby hostelry.

Remember, it's YOUR LUG, and if you want it to do anything
differently, it's up to YOU to suggest it.

Several current committee members either can't be re-elected to their
current positions this year, due to the 3 year rule, or have decided
not to seek re-election for personal reasons, so the ILUG committee
is going to look rather different after the AGM. If you think that
you could have something to contribute, do come along and volunteer
your services. This can't be over emphasised people - the ILUG
committee is essentially about
to be gutted, and needs re-populating.

The full list of speakers (and it is indeed full) in alphabetical
order (running order will be decided on the day - so if you come
late, you might miss the talk you're particularly interested in) is:

Speaker Affiliation Subject

Brian Brazil google The gNewSense project
John Looney google Managing multi million machine clusters
Dave Malone Hamilton Institute Network research involving Linux
Paschal Nee Mobile Travel Technologies	The mobile internet
Anton O Lachlain FON The largest WiFi community in the world
Ciaran O Riordan FSFE GPLv3, specifically DRM issues
Dave Wilson HEANet Bandwidth on demand

We're having a slight change in format this year, such that we will
have some talks, then the AGM business per se, and then the remainder
of the talks. This is to accommodate the number of talks we have, to
break things up a little, and to ensure that stragglers don't miss
the actual AGM.

Also this year, for the first time, we're taking a leaf from the Late
Late Show's book. If you're curious about that, you'll just have to
join the audience - it might be worth your while.

Niall
