`import` from the ImageMagick suite is a good one to use. In fact,
just used it for first time today!
Try,
import -window root output.png
to get the PrintScreen effect.
You can alter the filename to get whatever output type you want (e.g.,
.ps, .gif, .jpg). There are many options for capturing certain
areas/programs. Just check the man page. I think -window accepts
Process IDs (don't have import available on this machine)
