Kubuntu is afaik an official ubuntu project, in pretty much the same way as
edubuntu.
Besides KDE packages in Kubuntu, and Gnome packages in ubuntu, the other
packages are the exact same.
I personally perfer Kubuntu, since I have difficulty tolerating Gnome for
more than 5 mins at at time.
