| Subject: [ILUG] Memory slot
|[ ... ]
| Dont want ot ask stupid questions and never looked at the
| post your following up on but did you make sure its not
| the memory itself?
>90% sure: A new DIMM behaved the same; i.e., 3 (long)
beeps from the BIOS and nothing else. I haven't tried
an indisputably known working DIMM in the slot for fear
of somehow damaging it (the DIMM, not the slot).
| As far as i recall pcworld still sell PC133 which was reasonably cheap. Itd be faster than ordering online.
|
| Sorry about changing the subject field but php had a seizure over it and wouldnt send.
that's not a problem (AFAIK), albeit it sounds like yer
MUA/MTA is not quite working .....?
what is a mildly annoying point is not using the <Return>
key. this is NOT a criticism, just a request: please keep
yer lines < c.70 characters long! I've reformatted part,
but not all, of yer helpful reply just to show how annoying
long lines can be.
( and there's top-posting, but I'm ignoring that bruhahah! )

finally, thanks everybody for the suggestions!
as it so happens, I acquired a suitable DIMM via a
different means: _after_ posting, I recalled there
was a local parts shop I hadn't checked (the ones I
had checked prior to posting didn't have any 512MiB).
they had one at a decent price; so after c.24hours of
`memtest'ing, it is now in use in the one remaining
good slot.
cheers!
