Every couple of years or so I take delivery of a new machine and
have the *pleasure* of configuring X.
This time it's a Dell 2007FP and Debian's dpkg-reconfigure writes
an xorg.conf what will not even run. Adding a few googled details
makes it run, but I can't make it hit more than 1280*1024. One
wrinkle is that at 1600*1200 it has to have a VertRefresh of 60.
I'll include an extract from xorg.conf below.
My big puzzle is that I seem to get 1600*1200 for the GDM login
window, and it drops to 1200*1024 when I log in. Could it be that
Gnome is doing something, and that xorg is OK?
