[ILUG] Tell LDAP not to use SASL

[ILUG] Tell LDAP not to use SASL

Dear all,
I've got a box authing, via pam_ldap, off an LDAP server I don't control
and don't have admin on. An ldapsearch works if I specify the -x flag
to not use SASL, however I don't know how to tell ldap_pam not to use
SASL. Is there a way for me to
a) tell ldap_pam not to use SASL, or
b) turn off SASL in the global ldap.conf?

It's not as simple as setting SASL_MECH to None (-Y None on
command-line) :(
