Can I assume that you are trying to use fetchmail to collect mail over
an SSL connection?

fetchmail is unable to trust the certificate it received from the
server. It sounds like this is because it can't find the issuer's
certificate.
Usually an SSL client such as a web browser (or fetchmail in this case)
will have access to a database of trusted issuer certificates (such as
Verisign's). Any certificates which have been issued by a trusted issuer
will be trusted (as long as they are in date, and have not been revoked
etc).
It could be that you need to point fetchmail at such a database
so that it can trust the certificate supplied by your server.
