Actually, cyrus uses a quare MH style mail directory (not maildir or mbox)
and has done for a long time.  Perhaps you're thinking of UW-IMAP which
appparently still uses mbox.

Dovecot can use and autodetect mbox or maildir -- which is very nice.

Donncha seems to suggest kmail uses maildir in his blog. If this is true
you should just be able to scp the files onto the server in a folder called
~user/Maildir/ and dovecot should pick them up.
