The eth1 thing was something I saw on the net but I
tried it with and without with the same result.
Here is the output of modinfo
[root]# modinfo eth1394
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2933.fc6/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/eth1394.ko
license: GPL
description: IEEE 1394 IPv4 Driver (IPv4-over-1394 as per RFC 2734)
author: Ben Collins (bcollins at debian.org)
srcversion: EC67CC54521DAB0626BBEE7
alias: ieee1394:ven*mo*sp0000005Ever00000001*
depends: ieee1394
vermagic: 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6 SMP mod_unload 686 4KSTACKS
parm: max_partial_datagrams:Maximum number of partially
received fragmented datagrams (default = 25). (int)
ifconfig eth2 192.168.1.101 gives this result, note eth1 is been used by
a second ethernet port.
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth2: unknown interface: No such device
