Just a suggestion. Don't EVER put a / "partition" on 2 physical
drives: if one of them dies almost ALL your software/config/data will
die with it. You are using big hard drives already, why you need a
500GB / "partition"?
You should have an small / and put your /home /usr/ /tmp in different
logical volumes (using different volume groups if you want to use an
external hard drive too). With that setup if there is any problem in
the external drive you will always keep a functional system and will
be able (if possible) of fixing the external disk.
