Going way OT here, but I can't quote you any references except for what
employees of Eircom in various departments and from academics involved in
the study of the topic (broadband) have told me on separate occasions. Fact
is that the current and previous investors have considered Eircom as nothing
more than a financial play, squeezing out its assets for a quick return, the
current Eircom debt is, I have been told, 4bn euro. That sort of behaviour
will eventually impact on service quality especially since broadband is
becoming more and more a utility service with little value add (read
profit).
BTW, Babcock and Brown are now trying to buy / buy into the government MAN,
watch how that one pans out..... Eircom privatisation screw up all over
again.....
Anyway enough of that corporate crap.
On another note I'm setting up a soekris net4801 as a wireless and wired
broadband router.
Anyone ever set up linux on this platform? Monowall is usually used but its
wireless support is pretty much non-existent. I reckon a debian install
would do the job, does anyone have any pointers to offer?
