Hi Timothy,
even though I do quite a bit of web development, I would not recommend
starting with html/ajax - one needs to learn at least three different
systems: HTML, Javascript and something that runs on the server side,
might that be PHP/Python/Perl whatever.
Instead of that I would stick to one language, and maybe go for a very
simple gui system - pythoncard sounds easy to me, never used it myself
though.
