[ILUG] iSCSI Woes

[ILUG] iSCSI Woes

Hi all,

I have a Novell OES install here. I was using Qlogic QLA HBA's to
connect to an iSCSI storage device, however it was causing no ends of
problems, such as hanging the server etc.

Anyhow, I have configured normal iSCSI on OES but the performance of
it is bad too. No it does not crash the server, in fact it works well
and I have not gotten any errors there. But in terms of speed, it is
very very slow. Granted the TCPOE on the QLA4010 would be great to
have working now, but alas that is not the case.

It took 10 min to copy 8GB data from the localhost to the storage
device. I am just doing a mkfs.ext3 now and my load has shoot right up
(load average: 4.01, 3.00, 1.46) from 0, 0, 0. It was worse when I was
copying files.

There is no other traffic on the iscsi network (GigE) at the moment
apart from this test server. I am wondering if this is normal. I have
tested this win windows 2003 srv and the qlogic hba and the
performance appears much faster.

Is there something I am doing wrong here or some tweaks I can perform
to increase performance.

Hardware info below;

Any help welcomed.

Cheers
AJ
