That did indeed seem the only way to get a terminal window,
which incidentally is not remembered when I re-boot,
as it is under Fedora.

I tried that.
For some reason, although Terminal was listed under Applications=>Terminal,
this entry did not appear in Add to Panel
(although most if not all the other items appeared).
