There should be a volume thingy on the 'panel'. Otherwise add it by
right-clicking on an unused portion of the panel and selecting 'Add
to Panel..' then navigate to find 'volume control', select it and
'Add' it - should appear on your panel where you can click on it to
pop-up a slider for the main volume control (if you have a
scroll-wheel you can hover over the volume applet and scroll the
volume), or double-click it to open up a more detailed set of volume
controls.
