Are you refering to DiskMounter? I think I added it to my top panel myself - it
displays icons for all mounted disks, which are removed/hidden when you click
and eject them. The icons vary depending on the associated device; for example
the disk in my mp3 player (an iRiver H340) is represented by an icon of...an
mp3/personal player.
It's copyrighted by Canonical so might not be in standard gnome.
