Can you tell us are you using the ATI binary driver for this card or are
you using Xorg's driver?

If you're unsure you can open /etc/x11/xorg.conf and look for a stanza like
this one:

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "Intel Corporation 82815 CGC [Chipset Graphics Controller]"
    Driver      "i810"
    BusID       "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

which tells me that my video card is a peesovsheet Intel on-board thing and
that the driver in use is called i810.
