[ILUG] Copying CDs with dd

[ILUG] Copying CDs with dd

Timothy Murphy tim at birdsnest.maths.tcd.ie

Can I copy CDs using dd, even if they have some kind of copyright bar in them?

I hasten to add that I am not thinking of doing anything illegal.
But my grand-daughter and her friends have dozens of Sims-2 CDs
which they regularly coat in strawberry jam, chocolate, etc.
I have to clean CDs regularly -
you have to put in the appropriate CD to run the program --
and sooner or later one of them is bound to be beyond hope.

Ps I know this touches on the Word that Must Not be Said,
referring to a piece of transparent material
often used to let light into buildings ...
