Well, serious Perl developers would be more at home at Amazon[1] (our
retail website is implemented in Mason with a lot of Perl services)
than at Google, which is a Python-dominated dev environment.
But I think Paul is right; hard-core Perl hackers are probably happy
and valued where they are, so they are not going to be searching for
jobs so much.
You might want to get a bright young thing who lacks polish but has
plenty of smarts, and teach him or her how to write good Perl. That
approach scales, in my experience.
