Nip over to Maplins and grab a USB hard drive cradle and try to connect
via USB to another machine ... that worked for me before, failing that try

Best scenario is if the Electronics have failed. I've successfully
swapped the circuit board on a HDD where the PSU was so faulty the tops
blew off many chips on HDD PCB and MB, CDROM and Floppy fried (The GFX
card survived). (I've done it long ago on old MFM 5.25" drives too)
The donor HDD was not new, it had working electronics but had had a head
crash. You need same model/capacity drive.
If the data is important buying a new same model drive is 1/10th of
price of Data recovery company., then swap over the new circuit board.
