It is safe because it does not execute any programs (at least automount 
itself) there were some attempts to run autorun.sh from mounted media I do 
not know if it is still happening. In majority right now dbus is used to find 
that new media are there and to mount them and usually it is done by your 
window manager or part of thereof.
