thats's usual wipe overwrites every sector about 30 times to make sure that no
data is left on the hdd, i do not think that time would differ much between
40gb and 200gb drive because during the process of enchanting the capacity of
drives the speed was improved also.
But it will take a lot of time to wipe the drive
if you want to do single write off
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/whatever_drive_you_want bs=512
