Just a note to thank you all for help with syncing kmail.
I have kmail running now with dovecot IMAP.
For some reason it wasn't running properly
until I re-installed dovecot and kmail.
It's still not perfect - kmail occasionally crashes (maybe once a day),
but fortunately this does not seem to cause any corruption.
There seems to be a problem with kmail filters when used with dovecot IMAP.
