[ILUG] Linux-compatible scanner

Hello ILUG!

I'm thinking about buying a scanner.  Do you have any recommendations
for a Linux-compatible scanner that's available in Ireland?

I'm asking not so much about a scanner model, as about where to buy
it. A pointer to a good computer shop would be a good answer. An
additional hint about a scanner model would be even a better one.

The purpose of the scanner would be to scan various family documents,
such as newspaper strips, letters, children's drawings and photos. If
it scanned negatives and slides, it would be even better. But I know
that those scanners are much more expensive and I'm not sure if I
really need that feature.
