It's the geography of the situation as well.
Being stuck between Germany France and the UK means that there is a
huge amount of traffic transitting AMS-IX that has very little to do
with the size of the Dutch market and quite a lot to do with the sizes
of the Scandavian, British, German and French markets.
I recall the day the pirate bay was shut down we saw a fairly
significant drop in traffic at AMSIX.
