First off:
- which OS/distribution
- which versions of dovecot
- what is the server
- what is the client
- IPv4 or IPv6
- running on NFS?
etc etc etc.... details are important ;)
I use it in combo with Thunderbird which works fine.
Can't say anything about kmail though.
