[ILUG] Surge protector on phone-line

[ILUG] Surge protector on phone-line

Can one get a safety filter for an ADSL line?
I'm responsible for a line in a foreign clime
where there are frequent electric storms.
{There was one last weekend,
which seems to have knocked out the ISP.]

I've seen surge-protectors for electric sockets + phone lines.
I couldn't get one in this case,
so just got a surge protector on the electric sockets.

(a) Do these surge protectors actuall provide any protection?

(b) Can one get a protector just for a phone/ADSL line?

(c) Would the phone/ADSL splitter normally provide any protection?
