I would certainly feel safer giving my card details 
to a well-known internet site
than to someone who said they would lock my fax away in their filing cabinet.

I assume the protocols for internet storage are well-defined
and checked by people I would trust.
"Safe in the filing cabinet" is far too vague for me.
