recently, whilst searching the location/address
of the La Ciotat (France) train station, and in
particular plotting it on a map to get my bearings,
all I could find was a `.kmz' file. that is a zip
file which, in this case, contains one `.kml' file,
which is, in turn, an XML file containing some
location data (including longitude and latitude).
well, Ok, I more-or-less have what I want, but
what do I _do_ with it?
is there some way of using the `.kmz' or `.kml'
file with, e.g., Google Maps? (searching with
Google Maps directly only seems to find the
unrelated(?) street « Avenue de la Gare ».)
using:
http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/longlat.htm
and entering the co-ordinates manually gives
me a clew where the fsck the station is, but
unzipping the `.kmz' and manually entering the
data found in the `.kml' is awkward (and the
result is not as clear as could be desired).
( finding the address/location of the La Ciotat
station is perhaps unusually difficult since
it just so happens to be the location of one
of the earliest, and perhaps the best known
of the early, movies made, « L'Arrivée d'un
train en gare de La Ciotat » by the Lumière
brothers in 1895. hence, searchs tend to find
that historic film, not modern-day info! ;-\ )
cheers!
