[ILUG] MySQL binlog rotation on Debian Etch

Does anyone know the correct debian (etch) method of rotating MySQL
binlogs? Specifically it is the flushing/ removal of binlogs that I am
looking for.

I've tried setting both of the following in /etc/mysql/my.cnf:
expire-logs-days = 7
expire_logs_days = 7

Neither worked however.
Should it be configured in the following:
/etc/logrotate.d/mysql-server ?

Thanks,
Steve Burke
