[ILUG] Kubuntu

I have moved over to Kubuntu from the plain ol Ubuntu on both my desktop and 
laptop.  On the desktop machine while everything is working a-ok after 
logging in when the machine is doing it initalisation instead of the screen 
that shows the icons for  initalising this and setting up that as work in 
progress im just getting a black box centre of the screen with the messages 
partly displayed below.   Really a very minor point but Im just wondering if 
anyone else has seen this and is there a fix?  Laptop works fine in this 
respect.

Desktop hardware is a standard Dell Optiplex
