[ILUG] Linux and Internet in Cork

David,

Is your house too far from the exchange to get DSL? I believe Bantry
exchange is upgraded and that would probably be your best option if you
can get it. There is patchy wireless coverage there from companies like
http://www.digitalforge.ie/ but it is a very hilly area so unless you
live in the town or on top of a hill there's a good chance that you
won't have line of sight. Even if you did have LOS, those small
operators might not be the most reliable - it would be worth speaking to
someone who has the service first. Satellite is an option if it meets
your needs, and there's also a chance that you are covered by mobile
broadband e.g., from Three.

There are a lot of Cork Linux users on this list, but also on a separate
list for CLUG (Cork Linux Users Group) which you should sign up to,
because there are pints of the day and stuff for Cork discussed there.
It is a long old haul from Bantry to the city though, about an hour and
a half drive. Might be worth setting up a Bantry faction :)
