[ILUG] Read data from partially recorded dvd?

[ILUG] Read data from partially recorded dvd?

So, I have an LG dvd recorder. On a regular basis, it hangs when
finalising a pre-programmed recording and the only way out is to power off
the machine. Sometimes it will recover, sometimes it shows no awareness
of having recorded anything even though I watched it.

Now, this evening it missed something important and I'm trying to read the
recording using dd. The recordings are in mpeg 2 format so dd is usually
sufficient to read them. In this case, the recorder hung and shows no
trace of the recording though I believe the data is physically on the
disc. Before dd can read these discs (Lidl cheap DVD+RW discs), the
recorder has to finalise them and write a TOC. Because the TOC does not
include the recorded data, dd appears unable to read those sections of the
disc.

The question is: Is there a way to have dd read from a section of the dvd
that is not referred to in the TOC? Is there anything else out there that
will do it?

Ta,

Conor
