Sky and others will work with just an ISO card reader and the valid card
and suitable soft cam. Zaphod on the ICDG forums on boards.ie has
demonstrated this with ProgDVB.
A CAM and the CI adaptor is more expensive than the card or a setbox
with the embedded CAM.
The Nova cards are OEM versions of Technotrend. Which should be supported.
USB is not good... inherently.
The cheap ISO card reader will work with sat view cards and also
read/write SIM cards. They use serial port. Some with USB only use USB
for power and still need serial. There are some real USB ones.
A 80 Euro TV and 40 Euro sat box gives a better TV picture than ANY
computer monitor as frame rate is correct and no deinterlacing is required.
(The PC monitor always needs deinterlacing and often needs frame
conversion unless you run 50Hz)
Using PC of course doesn't remove need for TV licence.
You need MPEG4 codecs for new Irish DTT, which may not be available in
Galway for some time. Analogue TV via PC is terrible compared with a
cheap TV :(
I'd go for separate DVB-s2 or DVB-s and DVB-t cards. Unless you very
short of slots.
