If you have all info in a workbook (ie, a single file containing a
number of spreadsheet, one per room), the "search" function allows you
to search in the whole workbook - and btw if you want to dump the
workbook into a db there are automated ways to do that.
On a colorful side note, you could have also put all the tapes from a
box together with the barcoded side on the flat bed of a flatbed
scanner, scanned the page, and fed it to gocr - which happens to
recognize barcodes. :)
