while VIM is powerful, unless I'm mistaken it's really designed to be
used on a teletype. Sadly I'm old enough that I did use teletype to edit
files once.
Earlier you didn't need to learn commands but repunched the errant card.
Or changed the order of the deck :-)
For simple changes in a single file you don't need vim's features.
maybe your new directory is read only?
