Thanks for all the replies. None of the solutions have worked yet - its
probably about how I'm implementing them! :-)
The touch command that Phil Bradley suggested did succeed. But every time I
enter sudo on front of a command it returns the following error:
-bash: sudo: command not found
Checking the permissions, which Kingsley Morse recommended, did not work
either. it returned:
-bash: sudo: command not found
The thing that I think is catching me out is that the file has not yet been
created. I am using vim to create a new file and a new directory.
This line of thinking gives me two questions:
> What is the result of you typing "id" without the quotes.
I typed id and it returned:
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)
What is the file and in what directory do you want to save it?
The file is nav.php it is being created in
/opt/lampp/htdocs/webalizer/inc/. To create the other files i just used: vim
/opt/lampp/htdocs/webalizer/index.php and then entered the details and
saved. Now i want to create a new directory (/inc) and a new file
(/nav.php). It wont let me do this for some reason.
What distribution of GNU/Linux are you using?
I'm using Mandriva 2009
