Hi All,
I'm looking for NEW laptop ... 100% GNU/Linux compatible (if such exist
yet) for my wife. Not netbooks. If anyone has tested/reviewed recent
laptops models, I would appreciate any hints from you on a model
avalable in Dublin with hardware that is almost 100% GNU/Linux
compatible - no driver problems. She uses HP Laserjet 4000, HP PSC 1413
and HP Scanjet 3770 (possibly newer replacements of these - Ubuntu
should handle these very well?).
My wife (with no previous/formal IT literacy) had a 1-year successful
Linux (Ubuntu) orientation via a WinXP-Ubuntu dual boot setup on a
ThinkPad T23. She now never boots into WinXP and her setup never had
problems for the 1 year. Plan is to move her to 100% GNU/Linux on a NEW
laptop without WinXP or WinVista.
She's an entry-level user (but learning fast) who simply types docs
(college assignments and personal staff),reads/writes e-mail and browses
the web (multimedia included). Other key requirements she demands are
photo management (include importing photoes/videos from sony camera and
handycam ), wifi, voip support, doc and image scanning, music and videos
(include built webcam). She also uses USB flash memory for college.
assignments. She also uses laptop to record audio (mainly speech) using
Audacity and converts to MP3 and burns to CD. She's not good with
photoes and videos but says she likes to start learning! She will be
left alone with the laptop ... as I will be working abroad ... she says
laptop will be a VoIP phone for calling me!
