  Try using the business card installer from debian sid or testing. It'll
  have a newer kernel. You can use expert mode to chose which debian to
  install (stable/testing/unstable). Had to do that as the broadcom net 
card
  in a recent dell server wasn't liked by the stable kernel drivers.
