Senior Systems Administrator, Managed Network Services Team
HEAnet are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to work as part of a
small team to implement, maintain and support advanced system and
networking services to the Research and Education sector in Ireland.
Requirements:
The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
* Qualified to at least degree level in a relevant discipline, such
as Computer Science, with four years full time experience in systems
administration, MIS and/or networking.
* Expert with Linux/Unix system administration tools, including:
o Comprehensive knowledge of modern Linux OSes - preferably
Debian and Ubuntu
o Advanced backup solutions
o Implementing high availability data storage solutions
o Shell scripting (bash, zsh, etc)
o Perl, awk, sed, php, etc
o System and application debugging tools
o System profiling tools
* Proven expertise with Internet services, including:
o DNS, HTTP, SMTP and their implementation
o Thorough understanding of internet networking (TCP/IP) and
technologies for deploying highly resilient services
o Familiar with system monitoring software (e.g. cacti, MRTG,
Smokeping, Nagios, rancid)
* Familiar with networking technologies, including:
o Resilient high speed network architecture design and
implementation
o Switching technologies e.g. VLANs, HSRP
o Routers and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS/IS)
o Router and switch system hardware architecture
* A degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Computer Science, Computer
Engineering or equivalent relevant experience in systems and network
administration roles.
* Proven ability to work as part of a team and as an individual
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills
* It would be an advantage if candidates were familiar with one or
more of the following:
o Advanced networking protocols: IPv6, MPLS, Multicast, HSRP
o Windows System Administration
o Wiki's
o LSOFT's listserv
The work will include:
* Implementation of resilient network service architecture
* Scaling high speed / high availability data stores
* Designing a system backup & restore architecture
* Designing service provisioning tools
* Project management of service & software design and rollout
* Building resilient internet services
* Managing the platforms which deliver HEAnet.s suite of services
* Supporting services to the client; working to achieve SLAs
* Participation in research projects with clients and peers
* Configuration, maintenance and management of networking equipment
* Advanced network troubleshooting and problem resolution
* Communications with hardware and software vendors
* Communications with clients and peer networks
* Working as part of the NOC troubleshooting team
