[ILUG] Ubuntu update strategy for kernel

Hello & happy new year!

I just switched to Ubuntu 7.10 on my Dell Vostro 1500. Everything works fine except for
the sound. Im currently on a 2.6.22 kernel. I understand that getting the 2.6.23 or
2.6.24 kernel will fix my sound issues. Will Ubuntu eventually upgrade to these kernels
or will they stick with one for 7.10.?

If they do update the kernel is there anywhere i can check the see when it might happen
or would I be better off to just go and build my own?

Best Regards,
             Oliver Pfaff.
