it's a firefox bug.
the firefox Javascript engine is not threaded. you can see this by
visiting any javascript-heavy site (here's one:
http://verens.com/demos/picture.recogniser/distributed.training/picture.recogniser.html),
then try open any other tab while the heavy script is running.
there's been talk of changing this. I think this was one of the main
excitements when Flash's ECMSscript engine was offered to Mozilla. I'm
not sure if anything has been done about it.
