The desktop vs server refers to the kind of install you originally
did, not the purpose of the machine :)

Dunno, the comment in that bug seems to imply that doing that can indeed
cause problems.... I always use the GUI upgrader myself, although I did
upgrade older versions of Ubuntu from the command line with no problems.
Hardy seems to have a lot of problems :/
A fresh install might be the way to go...
