I would have said bring the pc to the internet to do an update, then bring
it back to its usual spot.
Back in the day when I had only dialup at home, I would do 'apt-get update'
to download the repo info and then have apt-get generate a list of URLs for
the actual update. I would then download the update packages at work and
bring them home and drop them in /var/cache/apt/packages and do the apt-get
dist-upgrade to install them. You could consider something similar where
you download the repo files, bring them to the desktop, then apt-get
dist-upgrade -make-list-of-urls to generate the list, download them next day
and bring them to the pc.
I still reckon bringing the pc to the 'net is the easier way to go...
