Grub won't like it. It's generally pretty flexible but it needs to get its
stage1.5 off the boot partition. When you grub-install, stage1 is written
to the MBR along with the pointers to /boot for stage1.5 etc.
If you remove the partition, it should be sufficient to 'grub-install
/dev/sdb' afterwards.
