This sounds a bit like something that happened to me, although I can't remember 
if it was after I
- updated the motherboard
- went to F9
- did some update or other

I think it turned out that the resume (and possibly the ACPI) bit was a red 
herring but I think it turned out that the initrd was out of date or otherwise 
unwell, IIRC the fix was to reboot using the rescue mode from the CD as 
described, chroot to /mnt/sysimage and run mkinitrd or depmod. (Possibly 
both).
