i don't use Ubuntu so can't answer specifically for that.
you should be able to mount it by opening a konsole and typing the
following:
su
mkdir /media/vivitar
mount /dev/sdb1 /media/vivitar #change sdb1 to whatever it actually is
chmod 777 /media/vivitar -r
remember to umount before removing it, and remove the /media/vivitar
directory when finished.
